Packet Tsunami Kills Your Business

Data attacks on company information systems are unfortunately part of everyday reality. Their scale grows larger every year. While five years ago the largest attack was 2Gbit/s, last year attack strengths reached 40Gbit/s. Attackers search for victims all around the world, not overlooking Slovakia. A data attack paralyzes a company, even making it impossible for a company to operate, and the standard security solutions do not help. These problems as well as the search for new security solutions against data attacks were the focus of the expert seminar “Packet Tsunami Kills Your Business” at the end of last year. It was organized for interested parties and Soitron business partners by SOITRON in co-operation with Cisco Slovakia.

DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) represents a distributed form of attack with the primary goal of stopping the services provided by the chosen company. It creates a managed network of compromised and infected computers, which makes the identification of the source of the attack and its destruction very difficult. The attack targets are usually DNS, web servers, ISP infrastructure, and systems of e-business. These huge attacks cannot be stopped even by a good router or firewall. However, there is a solution on the market with a success rate of 96%-98%. It is the Cisco Anomaly Detection and Mitigation, which is offered by Soitron in Slovakia. This was one of the reasons why both partners organized the “Packet Tsunami Kills Your Business” seminar in November. The seminar focused on various forms of data attacks, classic forms of security, and of course, the Cisco Anomaly Detection and Mitigation solution with concrete illustrations of attack eliminations.

Attacks in which the attacker overloads its victim with a huge volume of requests that could lead to system failure are more prevalent and sophisticated now than before. Even Slovakia experienced collapses of the web servers of a newspaper and TV news station. These failures brought about the dissatisfaction of the web sites’ readers, which didn’t last long though. The consequences for a retail company could be much more far-reaching. Besides an increase in spending on information technologies, malfunctioning systems can lead to the loss of a company’s reputation, productivity, and finally revenue.
